It is due to the influence of certain hormones on gingival tissues during pregnancy. Some women may notice enlarged gums and a bright red at the margins. These gums may bleed spontaneously or brushing teeth. It also appears at times a sense of bad breath. With the proper treatment of gums and oral hygiene (plaque control) appropriate this situation is fully controllable.

Granuloma in pregnant women
It is, localized overgrowth of the gum. This gum has a soft, bright red. This growth is usually located in the margin of the gum between two teeth. It occurs more often in anterior teeth (incisor and canine) and the maxilla. After delivery usually subsides spontaneously.

In pregnant patients with advanced and uncontrolled disease of the gums (periodontitis) has detected a relationship to preterm delivery.
