Among the 2.5 million Hispanics in the United States who have diabetes, many are surprised to learn about an unexpected complication associated with this condition: gum disease.

According to the Center for Disease Control (Center for Disease Control, CDC), there is an increased prevalence of gum disease among diabetics, a disease that disproportionately affects Hispanics in the United States.

Did you know?
A national survey of tests, Mexican Americans are almost twice as likely as white non-Hispanics that a doctor diagnosed diabetes.
Among Hispanics, the prevalence rates of diabetes are 8.2 percent for Cubans, 11.9 percent for Mexican Americans and 12.6 percent for Puerto Ricans.

The Choice of a Good Toothpaste

The solution: a peroxide-based toothpaste calcium can mineralize and strengthen tooth enamel, while eliminating the bacteria responsible for plaque. This molecule also has a bleaching effect, attenuating the color of the surface. For greater efficiency, it is advisable to keep a time the toothpaste in the mouth after brushing and before rinsing.

Fluoridated Salt Intake Reduces Decay Up To 60%

Due to the high incidence of caries in the Peruvian population, Dr. Jim Romero Lloclla, the Oral Health Strategy Health of the Ministry of Health (MoH) recommends consumption of fluoridated salt in foods.

He said that diseases affecting the oral cavity by about 90% of the Peruvian population, among them being dental caries, periodontal disease and tooth bad positions, the most common.

To prevent these evils, he suggested the consumption of fluoridated salt in food, a substance that reinforces and strengthens the tooth structure; remineralising surface when decalcification by acids produced by bacteria generated.
