There is no perfect substitute for natural teeth

The filling may last many years before it has to be replaced, but the seals are exposed to constant pressure from chewing. Clenching or grinding teeth also puts tremendous force on fillings and tooth enamel. All this can make the seals are wear, chipping, crack or fall.
Over time, the edges of the filling can wear down or may loosen the seal surrounding enamel, leaving a very small space between the tooth and the filling. This condition may allow bacteria to enter and cause decay in the margins (edges) of the filling.
