Do not let your child suck pacha chest or passively during sleep. Your child should be weaned shortly after the first birthday and introduced to solid foods in your diet. This is a critical time to teach your child to eat healthy foods. If you choose to continue with the pacha, fill it with water only. Brush your child’s teeth after feeding every morning and before bedtime. We recommend a small bristle brush and smooth with a small amount of toothpaste (pea size). Ask your dentist about brushing instructions.

For over forty years, fluoride has been recognized for its caries preventive qualities. There are three basic ways to provide the benefits of fluoride to your child: (1) community drinking water, fluoride, (2) application of fluoride to tooth surfaces, (3) fluoride taken orally. He will benefit from all three. The decision depends on the advice of your dentist.

Avoid foods with foods that contain excess sugar. Avoid parts and soft drinks between meals. When sugary foods are given, they should be offered as desserts, while the flow of saliva is still active and is able to provide some natural cleaning.

“In Mexico 324 plants are used for the treatment of oral diseases like tooth decay, toothache, and periodontal disease (inflammation of gums and gingivitis), which constitute a public health problem in the country,” said Manuel Jimenez-Estrada, researcher Department of Natural Products, Institute of Chemistry (IQ) of the UNAM.

Since prehistoric times, some species of the genus Oxalis, plants with four petals, clover premiums are used as a remedy for diseases of the mouth, the O. cf. albicans against canker, O. and O. latifolia vallicola for stomatitis, and O. tetraphylla to stimulate the secretion of saliva.

Most illnesses, he said, is caused by anaerobic bacteria that require special environments such as the mouth. Tooth decay, caused mainly by Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus spp, and periodontal disease by Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, to mention only two cases.

Due to the recurrence of these evils in Mexico, and the need to have alternatives to cure, Jiménez-Estrada, in collaboration with Rosario and Gloria Ruiz de Esparza Gutierrez, Faculty of Dentistry, designed the project “Mexican plants with activity against bacteria causing oral diseases. ”

When the amount of saliva decreases or composition is altered, cause problems such as dry mouth, dental caries and calculus.

Although saliva is extremely essential for maintaining oral health, we rarely stop to think about its importance. This is why we decided to comment you the importance that really does in our body.

That saliva is not only responsible for assisting in digestion and food processing, it also protects the inner surface of the mouth and teeth because of its alkaline pH neutralizes the acids produced by plaque. In addition, it protects the inner surface of the mouth is used to diagnose diabetes, oral cancer and periodontal diseases in general, gives teeth the calcium and phosphate necessary for remineralisation; is a powerful reservoir of fluorine, and dilutes and removes sugars in the mouth.

When the amount of saliva decreases or composition is altered, cause problems such as dry mouth, dental caries and calculus. In addition there is a condition called xerostomia, which brings trouble speaking, eating and even to support the structure of the teeth, which can trigger the loss of one or more pieces. It is also common for people with this disorder manifest pain and irritation in the mucosa and to feel that their language is constantly irritated and when burned with a hot food.

If, however, the saliva is too abundant, often occurring erosive lesions on the lips or skin of the face that edge. This is compounded by the uncomfortable feeling that must support those who constantly feel his mouth full of ‘water’ and to talk, eat or sleep lost control.

Alterations
Factors such as the number of teeth in the mouth, dehydration, age, sex, mouth breathing or psychological issues like stress and anxiety can reduce the flow of the salivary glands. It is also common that the production of saliva vary if progressively destroying illnesses such as dementia teeth. Also, some drugs produce adverse effects on the glands and it is essential to pay attention to side effects of medical treatments.

The first is to ask a medical diagnosis. Usually this is accomplished through an ultrasound (a procedure that uses sound waves that pass to the glands to see the size and condition of the same), nuclear magnetic resonance, CT scan or a biopsy.

Treatment
Xerostomia can be treated with stimulants in saliva or artificial saliva substitutes ‘irritate’ the glands to react to stimuli.
For excess saliva is essential to determine the cause for this disorder can be caused by psychological problems, excessive use of snuff in even the hormonal changes of pregnancy.

Due to the high incidence of caries in the Peruvian population, Dr. Jim Romero Lloclla, the Oral Health Strategy Health of the Ministry of Health (MoH) recommends consumption of fluoridated salt in foods.

He said that diseases affecting the oral cavity by about 90% of the Peruvian population, among them being dental caries, periodontal disease and tooth bad positions, the most common.

To prevent these evils, he suggested the consumption of fluoridated salt in food, a substance that reinforces and strengthens the tooth structure; remineralising surface when decalcification by acids produced by bacteria generated.

Also, the specialist noted that fluoridation is a preventive measure that reduces the incidence of caries can be easily used by all people, regardless of the region where he resides, ensuring a wide coverage of preventive measure.

The fluoridation of salt is to strengthen the product for human consumption Doses from 200 to 250 milligrams of potassium fluoride per kilogram. Therefore it is recommended to review the back of the bags of salt purchased in the market to verify which includes appropriate established to acquire a product of tooth decay preventive. It is also inexpensive and can be purchased at any store.

Significantly, in the oral cavity begins the process of food and nutrition post, where the presence of the teeth will ensure adequate training and subsequent chewing cud, Lloclla Romero said.

The use of fluoridated salt in food reduces the oral cavity diseases, which are a risk factor of malnutrition due to the presence of pain symptomatology, which would produce a poor selection of food at the expense of soft food, hydrate carbon, reducing the intake of foods rich in protein and minerals, said the specialist.

The disease occurs in children just two years by the excess sugar and crushed food. The stillness that requires dental treatment requiring anesthesia the entire body to some patients.

Mary is an experienced dental patient, but is 7 years old. Their behavior in the dental office is unusual among people their age. It supports a long history: it occupies the recliner for four years. His control of the fear of electronic minitaladradora is an exception in the growing child group is forced to go to the dentist because of dental caries have swept molars, premolars and even the front panels. She took a seat and, after being poked gently into the gum to numb the jaw, is able to stand quietly, “like a lady” according to his dentist, during the 20 or 30 minutes it takes to repair the part of the day. It is an atypical case.

“At that age, dental treatment is almost impossible, unless the child is induced anesthesia of the entire body, because only with local sedation mouth does not stand still,” says Dr. Sandra Pereyra, dentist Mary. Completely sedate a child means acting in an operating room, not in the dentist’s office, and requires the involvement of an anesthesiologist, in addition to the dentist. The essential factor in the stillness while speaking is not a minor issue if, as Mary, the patient accumulates caries by up to 6 of the 20 teeth that occupy the mouth of a child.

IS A DISEASE / Consultation with Dr. Pereyra, and the rest of his colleagues, serving deep dental caries in children becoming smaller. “I tried caries enormous, as ever, in children as young as two years,” he explains. At that age, he adds, the mouth should not be sick. “Because caries is a disease, although it is accepted as a normal condition of the mouth,” says the dentist. And, poorly treated, can cause tooth loss.

The short trajectory of these patients and exaggerated attending dental destruction have led some experts to investigate the phenomenon. Direct their search towards the eating style that prevails in most young households. The children’s diet, have observed, is too sweet, contains too many refined carbohydrates and it has been removed from the requirement of chewing. Nothing comprehensive pasta and rice, which can be harder. “All offers are crushed, because parents do not have time to dedicate to the late form of chewing of many children,” says Pereyra. “Instead, he adds,” if you give them carrots, mashed potatoes and chicken, they swallow it with four tablespoons. “Wheels are not used.

Sticky / They also noted that children take too soft and sticky foods, factors that, together with the grinding, physiological undermine the mission of the teeth. “The human teeth are designed to cut, tear and shred, and if he does three things loses its function,” the specialist, who stresses the importance of giving children apples, steak, carrots, peaches, cucumbers, and whole diet, cut into pieces which require to invest a certain force to chew. That effort, he explains, allows the teeth to fulfill their reason for being and promotes natural cleansing of the mouth.

Too much sugar not only affects children. “According to the manuals of food anthropology, in the twelfth century the Spanish consumed 12 grams of sugar per day, in the nineteenth century, took 25 and now over 100 grams,” says the dentist. If this excess is added to refined flours, such as sugar, calories and just only provide nourishment, the result is a progressive demineralization of tooth hard tissues, he adds. Decayed teeth enamel lost his first protective layer, and after she disappears the deepest: the dentin. “If decay is not removed, the process comes to destroy the pulp, the soft tissue of the tooth, and the piece is without support,” summarizes the dentist.

Bruxism, clenching and that teeth grinding is a movement disorder that has no schedule and is involuntary. It affects between 10% to 20% of the population giving both men and women. It is destructive to the dental structures, muscles and jaw joints. The main cause of this disorder is stress, a symptom common in today’s society, causing symptoms such as headache, feel tired jaw, pain in the masticatory muscles, wear on the teeth, among others.

Against this background the Extension Center Clinica Santa Maria will perform a free talk next Tuesday July 27th at 19:00 pm: “Bruxism, a bad involuntary” by Dr. William Flores, Unit Dentistry.

Dr. William Flores, Dentist, Dental Unit of the Clinic Santa Maria explains that “from the point of view has no bruxism dental treatment, what do the dentist to prevent damage by using intraoral devices and treatment of injury caused by the bad habit. ”

Another of the changes that can occur is the dental displacement in cases where the tooth relationship is unstable. For this reason it is recommended that at the end of orthodontic treatment is tested in the stability of the bite to prevent further displacement.

One of the most used is the use of a relaxation map, device that completely covers the teeth, and usually used in the maxilla. The patient should be examined periodically, and relationships of teeth and jaw position changes position over time and must be stabilized.

“It is a progressive phenomenon, we start with clenched teeth and wear them, they may feel headaches, joint sounds and pain on opening the mouth, and finally the person concerned may feel the sensation of having sand in the joint, because the structures articular bone is eroded, “says professional.

That is why if you have the above symptoms, you should consult a specialist in Orofacial Pain and Temporomandibular Disorders for a specific diagnosis of the patient’s condition and provide appropriate treatment. The dentist recommends having inspections every six months to assess the dental condition and related structures of the masticatory system to prevent, or take appropriate action.

“During the summer you should maintain a more intense hygiene of the teeth and mouth, as the temperature increase contributes to the existence of oral disease,” cautioned the Dr. Miguel Angel Saravia Rojas, dean of the Dental Association of Peru (COP).

He said that the growth of bacteria causes diseases occur such as thrush (sores) that affect the mouth, cavities, gingivitis, among others.

“The mouth is the organ that initiates the process of digestion, good care and food intake beneficial during the summer season will help prevent various diseases,” said Dr. Saravia Rojas.

He recommended eating a healthy diet, including fruit juice, vegetables, and plenty of water, as this will help prevent oral diseases. Also reduce the intake of sugary foods and drinks all day, it increases the levels of acid affects the teeth.

Dr. Saravia Rojas said that after eating between meals is necessary to at least rinse your mouth several times. Similarly, brushing before sleeping is important, because at night the acids that destroy the teeth are formed more easily, because the saliva secretion decreases and the anaerobic environment (mouth closed) provides favorable conditions for the proliferation of bacteria.

Finally, recommended to visit the dentist at least once a year, because this will allow early detection of any problems and deal with it, avoiding complications, pain and higher expenditures.

Root canal treatment is to save the teeth, preventing its removal. This way they can continue to fulfill its functions of mastication and aesthetics.

Currently, root canal treatments are performed in one appointment. Today we have the knowledge and equipment necessary to make this possible. Traditionally, these treatments have been made in several sessions (2-4), and if it is possible to achieve adequate results in different events, most cases are likely to culminate in a single session, except for some more complicated cases, where may be needed two or more sessions.

Is it painful a root canal treatment?
It should not be. At the time of treatment to be implemented by placing a local anesthetic to prevent the patient from feeling pain.
After treatment and after the anesthesia could appear any discomfort in chewing for a few days due to irritation of the periodontal tissue (ligament that connects the tooth to the bone) surrounding the root. In these cases, prescription anti-inflammatory painkillers the dentist sufficient for pain control.

Is it common for the tooth is put black after a root canal treatment?
It is possible over the months and years the tooth to turn a darker color than normal. To fix this you can make internal and external bleaching, veneer or a crown gear.

Does it work forever?
There’s no “lifetime warranty.” The success is very high. This percentage is lower in infected teeth or who have failed previous root canal treatment. If that happens it will be necessary to repeat the treatment, complemented by surgical treatment or even extraction of the affected tooth

Is there any alternative to root canal treatment?
There is no alternative to endodontics, except the extraction and since this is an irreversible fact, we always recommend first conducting endodontics. The ideal is to conserve healthy tooth itself.

Are they more fragile teeth after a root canal treatment?
The restored tooth that is not susceptible to fracture, so the patient should see a dentist as soon as possible after endodontic treatment in the week after treatment or at the latest, within fifteen days.

In a few cases, a properly restored tooth treated with root canal treatment can suffer a fracture after a time by loss of restoration, caries or other predisposing factors, among which is bruxism, a condition that is becoming increasingly clear in the consultation .

What care I have to be next?
It may hurt for a few days, the face may also swell. The consultation will prescribe the most appropriate medication
You should eat at the side opposite to the root canal during the first days, to avoid hurt or fracture the tooth.
You can brush your teeth regularly at an early stage, even in the area of endodontics.
After the root canal the tooth is covered with a temporary filling, which is more porous than the final filling, so you should go early to the office to rebuild the tooth root canal, and that by going with the temporary filling or it may drop fracture.
You must be careful not to accidentally bite the soft tissues of the mouth (tongue, lips), as the anesthesia takes away about two or three hours after therapy and, not noticing the tissues are susceptible to be lacerated.

When doing a root canal or endodontic eliminate the vascular nervous bundle of the tooth (pulp) that lodges in the pulp chamber and canals tooth and fill it with a suitable material for this. By this we mean that we do not change the composition of the tissues of the teeth, therefore, the tooth has the same opportunity to develop a cavity on the surface like a perfectly healthy tooth.

The thing to remember is that when one moves on a tooth caries with root canal the patient tipop persive no sensitivity or discomfort since the encragada to perceive (pulp) has been eliminated.

Another question we are our patients is that if a tooth with a crown (porcelain, metal, acrylic, etc) can get cavities. Not only can but has more possibilities than a healthy tooth. This is because the crown sits on the tooth and in union with failure over the years, being able to produce a recurrence of cavities.

It is therefore advisable to carry out periodic visits to the dentist to check the teeth with root canals and crowns to prevent widespread destruction by caries.

The Arkansas Department of Health has the Oral Health Coalition. This nonprofit organization promotes oral health measures, increases awareness and promotes dental health initiatives to prevent and control oral diseases.

One of its programs is the Mission of Mercy. Last year volunteers attended dentists and about two thousand people in Springdale offering free dental services.

Dr. Dwight Duckworth, of the Dental Association of the State of Arkansas, was responsible for the mission.
“Statewide the biggest problem with children’s dental health is the lack of access to a dentist,” she said.
He says that this is not so much the case in Northwest Arkansas as there are a significant number of dentists.

A statewide campaign is to increase the application of a dental sealant on the teeth of children as a method of prevention for caries.

A dental sealant is applied to the surface cracks and some teeth where 90% of childhood caries.

“It is important to diagnose dental problems of children because then it can cause tooth loss, it takes more work and more expensive,” said Duckworth.

“To prevent things when they’re young will help immensely to become adults,” he said.
