Phobias are psychological disorders that are characterized by an excessive and irrational fear of some object, situation, place or activity.

Phobia for attending the consultation of the dentist is no exception to this, those suffering from this disorder feel unable to control this feeling and try, by all means possible to avoid that which will cause dizziness, body weakness, sweating, tachycardia and digestive problems , as in this case to go to the dentist.

Why do we suffer from dental phobia?
Among the most common causes are: Having experienced a traumatic event in childhood, fear of contagious diseases, unpleasant feeling to see blood, fear of injections and panic at the prospect of a tooth extraction. As a result avoid or delay for years the dental visit, greatly increasing their risk of dental disease increasingly complicated.

Once diagnosed phobia of the dentist is necessary to involve the patient-specific therapy groups, allowing you to express your fears, and slowly progressive face it, to overcome this irrational fear. Unlike many other phobias, it is possible to reverse it soon, ask for help from a specialist is the first step to improve the quality of life.

We know that a smile can be an excellent cover letter or something we can close all doors. So we brush, floss and use the visit to the dentist regularly. However, dental science has advanced since the times when we dropped the last tooth, but our dentist will know?.

The laser could be pushing aside the old machines to take pictures. Diagnostic lasers can reach inaccessible places and even below the surface of the tooth, which many x-rays can not. Only 15 percent of dentists use this technology, but they should do all. This and other laser tools, will become more popular as professionals learn more about them.

Ozone is making its entry into dentistry. A promising new treatment uses highly reactive oxygen molecules, not only to kill bacteria but to reduce tooth decay. Studies of the University of Belfast showed that teeth exposed to ozone killed 99 percent of viruses and bacteria that perform caries.

Are also developing new toothpastes that are worth mentioning. One has a copper-based compound that inhibits the formation of plaque on the tooth surface for 16 hours and eliminates bad breath. Other calcium-containing liquid that can help restore tooth enamel by brushing. Also micro-cracks filled with calcium and phosphate and prevent unsightly stains.

Caries is a disease that mainly affects the younger population, but when we arrived at an advanced age, we start losing our teeth and oral health are also affected.

Caries has been a topic of concern to experts and research that every day is more about oral health, tooth pastes and methods which help to prevent these diseases.

Sometimes it has been to create certain types of toothbrush or products that protect enamel and gums sensitive. The latest invention, is found in the dental microscope, which allows through increasing optical decay vision and find anywhere in our mouths.

With the old standards remained hidden cavities in the corners and in small fissures of the teeth, but now, with the microscope we can see anywhere in expanded form so we can remove any appearance of decay to the smallest detail.

If we add these new technologies, the use of fissure sealants get a really effective technique.

Crack seals create a barrier that protects the teeth area and aims to fill the cracks and points of enamel for easy cleaning of the teeth and thus avoid the embedding of bacteria that form cavities in them.

The teeth are parts that are made of a material like bones, and his worst enemy often the dreaded cavities caused by bacteria that cause bad hygiene to a substance known as plaque. The teeth are embedded in the gums, which have a very soft tissue, which is prone to inflammation (gingivitis), and also a large number of infections (periodontitis).

To prevent decay, we can do from food is to eat foods rich in vitamin A, which act on bone formation, and her presence can be found in foods such as kidney, liver, whole milk, cheese, fish blue, egg yolk, broccoli, spinach and cantaloupe. We must not forget the importance of healthy teeth the calcium and is essential to keep our teeth healthy, so that all foods containing it are welcome to the diet, and those rich in vitamin D to help better absorption of calcium, among them we find, sardines, herring, salmon, tuna, mackerel and fish liver oils.

Foods that provide vitamin C are those that allow us to keep our gums healthy, so we must include a good amount of citrus, parsley, green leafy vegetables, peppers and tomatoes.

A tip: At the end of the meal, substitute coffee for a small piece of cheese that protects tooth enamel, and inflammation of the gums, mouthwashes are best prepared with licorice, eucalyptus and savory.

These three terms are among the most visited in the dental office and one of the million dollar question. If I take an antibiotic cure tooth infection?

Infections of dental origin are caused precisely by the tooth.
When this type of infection (which can cause pain, swelling of the face or gums, increased tooth mobility, swollen glands, inability to open the mouth to more severe complications or simply by a finding without symptoms travez a dental radiography) often follows the seizure of a given antibiotic to control the process.

But after several days of taking the drug the infection and inflammation or pain have diminished or disappeared but the problem remains possible cause and therefore should be treated.

The treatment are varied and range from tooth extraction, root canals, periodontal treatment, etc.
Our advice is to follow the right treatment and that not only aggravate the problem but also likely will return to the infectious process over time and may do so more aggressively.

On the web there are many websites talks about the use of home remedies for whitening teeth baking soda or salt mixed with lemon juice, hydrogen peroxide, fruit, etc. and with this cepillarce JOINING teeth or swish.

The role of these products is to be abrasive, ie polished enamel surface eliminating external staining caused for example by coffee, cigarettes, tea, etc.

These products when used periodically are gradually eroding the tooth enamel and in patients with receding gums and tooth sensitivity can contribute to this increasing. It can also hurt the gum by abrasion.

This type of homemade pasta to the tooth whitening not only remove external stains (extrinsic). If the teeth have a more yellow color in its constitution will not improve in any color.

For removing these stains outside the dental office, in addition to the removal of plaque that can bring oral problems, perform a simple teeth cleaning (routine scaling, dental prophylaxis) that may take only a couple of minutes. And we are not only improving the aesthetics of our teeth but also their health.

The dental cleaning can be done with insrumental manual and mechanical removal of tartar and stains and then passes a brush (round brushes) with a slightly abrasive paste to remove stains left ne safely.
And if we want to whiten your teeth their usual tone is to perform a technique called “whitening” or “dental bleaching.”

Dental caries are holes that appear in the enamel of the teeth. Currently, they are considered as another disease, since they cause a disturbance of the person’s health, both short and long term.

It is rare that a baby under one year already have cavities, but to prevent them we must begin to act even before the appearance of this disease.

What are the causes?
To see tooth must coexist several factors:

    * Some bacteria (often considered an infectious disease).

    * Presence of sugar in the mouth. Most foods contain different types of sugars or carbohydrates. For example, milk containing lactose or bread or cereals contain starch.

    * The sugars and bacteria to coexist together in dental plaque for some time. Dental plaque is a thin layer composed of cells of the mouth and food debris, which are attached to the teeth, especially in the cracks between other teeth and gumline. That is where live bacteria that cause cavities.
The bacteria feed on sugars and produce acid substances as a waste that erode tooth enamel.

What are they like?
A caries begins as a mere speck in the tooth. At first, it appears that the enamel loses brightness and becomes more opaque. It soon becomes a small brown area where the enamel sinks.

The gap grows and deepens. You can destroy the entire visible portion of the tooth or it may be a small hole that penetrates to the root of the tooth.

Cavities start to hurt when they reach the pulp of the tooth, ie where the nervios.Subir

What do we do?
The first step is prevention from birth and before the baby teeth appear.

Small cavities in baby teeth can be covered with a layer of fluoride, known as “sealed.”

Once produced the cavity, the only solution is the filling. Dentists call it “curettage.”

Can complicate?
Some toddlers have cavities in all teeth. This causes them problems when eating. In this way, they cost a lot to chew food.

They are called baby bottle tooth decay to those in the front incisors of an infant. In general, are caused by the habit of putting honey or sugar on a pacifier or by continually giving sweet drinks like juice.

The other complication is the abscess. In children, infection of the root of a tooth, usually causes a lump in the gum that is filled with pus and can be opened, known as fistula.

Can it be prevented?
Although babies are born without teeth, inside your gums are already a few small sketches of what will be their baby teeth. These will be stronger if the mother takes a fluoride supplement throughout pregnancy.

When the baby is born, we must remember that:

    * Breastfeeding promotes a better development of the jaws and teeth bottles.

    * There should accustom the baby to use pacifiers. Avoid it if the child does not show too much emphasis, “hobby” or dependency. As children settle down or even better! when they take in their arms, talk to them or serve. Remember that you should never put honey, sugar or condensed milk on the pacifier to soothe a crying baby. If you get used to the sweet, when your teeth appear cavities are formed quickly.

    * Bottles night. Although during the first months of life, babies tend to eat often, including during the night, after they get teeth is recommended not to give bottles of dawn. The reason is that while falling asleep at once, the language does not move and no “clean” the teeth. Then there are remnants of milk (with or without grain) may begin to favor Cairo.

    * Dental hygiene should start from which the first teeth. Parents can use a handkerchief or a wet gasita to clean the teeth of the baby until 15-18 months. After that age, your baby wants to imitate adults and have their own toothbrush. He knows not brushing properly, it is time to begin to guide your hand to learn. Before age 4 should not use toothpaste, because it is going to swallow. This should be done after every meal, but at least once a day, before putting the child to sleep.

    * Do not start the baby in the consumption of sweets or sweet drinks between meals offer.

How useful are the medicines?
Fluoride is a substance important in preventing tooth decay. In many places, water use food is supplemented with fluoride.

You may take the mother during pregnancy, and later, the baby can do it in the form of drops or tablets (dose depends on age, but also that the tap water has enough of this mineral).

Tooth decay and gum disease are the main oral disease which has 98 percent of Mexicans said Leopoldo Becerra, president of the organizing committee of the National Congress and International Association of Dental Mexicana (ADM).

In an interview with El Universal, the specialist said that dental problems are a public health issue that has not been given due importance.

He acknowledged that unfortunately people associate dentists with pain, because when they come to clinics have severe decay problems often arising in tooth extractions.

“The outlook would be different if you go regularly to the dentist, because they detect problems early,” he said.

Cavities begin in childhood. “Children two years your teeth are pitted” he says.

He added, the majority of Mexicans over 60 years to reach that stage of his life without few teeth when they never should have fallen. But in rural and indigenous areas, said the specialist, the problem of tooth decay and gum disease is more serious.

“Between 25 and 30 years are people who no longer have teeth, that’s worrisome,” said the dentist who recalled that this is partly because there are no dentists in these regions that serve the population.

Most, evidenced, are in cities and few want to go to work in underserved areas of the country.

Hence, he stressed the importance of such schools as the Mexican Dental Association, which seeks through its members meet the demands of the population, besides providing information to people about the dentists there are in Mexico and which are certificates. This said, avoided the population to be served by charlatans who missed out a specialty.

Yesterday was opened on 28 National Congress and International Association for Dental Mexican Health Secretary Julio Frenk.

In his inaugural message, the official said it is under review Official Mexican Standard on the Prevention and Control of Oral Diseases.

For its part, Armando Hernández Ramírez, president of ADM, said that during this three-day Congress will be held 50 courses in operative dentistry and biomaterials surgery, and will be assisted by specialists from 16 countries.

Interviewed in his office, Leopoldo Becerra, who is driving the baby’s dental clinic, said that there are places where there is no drinking water, but soda and junk food.

For this, he said, the rate of caries in the population living in communities outside the cities is severe, which added to the lack of dentists results in loss of teeth until they become edentulous at very young ages.

How old we talking about?
Between 25 and 35 there are a lot of people edentulous, which is serious because a tooth should last for a lifetime.

The problem is so serious that the Federal District has established a dental prosthesis after 60 years of age.

And partly, he said, this is due to a lack of culture of prevention of teeth by parents.

For the member of the Mexican Dental Association, this is a public health problem, not only domestically but also globally, to the extent that the World Health Organization states among the first sites of dental disease followed by the flu.

In perspective, the problem starts from education. The 60 universities in the country, where graduate dentists are not taught to prevent cavities and gum problems, but to attack the disease.

Do not let your child suck pacha chest or passively during sleep. Your child should be weaned shortly after the first birthday and introduced to solid foods in your diet. This is a critical time to teach your child to eat healthy foods. If you choose to continue with the pacha, fill it with water only. Brush your child’s teeth after feeding every morning and before bedtime. We recommend a small bristle brush and smooth with a small amount of toothpaste (pea size). Ask your dentist about brushing instructions.

For over forty years, fluoride has been recognized for its caries preventive qualities. There are three basic ways to provide the benefits of fluoride to your child: (1) community drinking water, fluoride, (2) application of fluoride to tooth surfaces, (3) fluoride taken orally. He will benefit from all three. The decision depends on the advice of your dentist.

Avoid foods with foods that contain excess sugar. Avoid parts and soft drinks between meals. When sugary foods are given, they should be offered as desserts, while the flow of saliva is still active and is able to provide some natural cleaning.
